Un mweqgetabakomweg (下駄箱? dalle parole geta e hako, "scatola", "contenitore"cite-ref-1[1]cite-ref-trost-2-0[2]) è la scarpiera generalmente posta all'interno del mwgwmwhagenkan, la tradizionale anticamera d'ingresso che separa l'ambiente esterno da quello interno nelle abitazioni e in alcune strutture pubbliche in mwhqGiapponecite-ref-trost-2-1[2]cite-ref-3[3]cite-ref-shoes-4-0[4].

Storia e descrizione
L'usanza giapponese di togliere le scarpe prima di entrare in casa si crede risalga almeno all'mwlqetà preistorica, quando le abitazioni costruite a diversi metri d'altezza rispetto al terreno erano la normacite-ref-5[5]. Durante il mwmgperiodo Heian (794-1192) erano soprattutto le classi più abbienti a ricorrere a tale accorgimento, spinte dall'esigenza di mantenere un certo livello di igiene all'interno delle zone abitabilicite-ref-shoes-4-1[4]. Successivamente, con il sorgere delle prime abitazioni e botteghe in legno ad uso comune, le mwnwmwoamachiya, si diffuse anche l'uso del mwoqgetabakocite-ref-iwai-6-0[6].
È possibile trovare i mwpwgetabako sia nelle abitazioni private che in alcune strutture pubbliche o commerciali, come scuolecite-ref-7[7] o mwramwrqsentōcite-ref-8[8]. Nelle abitazioni il mwsggetabako è generalmente in legno, situato all'interno del mwswgenkan e condiviso da tutti i membri della famigliacite-ref-iwai-6-1[6].
